The Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972, section 101 (a)(4) provides that a property owner (boat and/or dock) may authorize an agent to use non-lethal methods to deter marine mammals from damaging their private property. As your assigned agent, I will legally remove sea lions from your property (boat and/or dock) with regard for the safety of the animal(s) and for your property. I will then:
- use biodegradable, non-toxic, common marine vessel cleaning products and methods to remove/abate the scent of the presence of marine mammals from your property
- repair/improve your existing sea lion abatement structure, or erect a new such structure, to meet your personal requirements for frequent or less frequent take-down/ re-deployment
- patrol & maintain as-necessary, your boat/dock & sea lion abatement structure on a minimum weekly basis to ensure the safety of your property and discourage sea lions from re-boarding your property
- my boat is a 20-ft rigid inflatable, with non-marking rub strakes & fenders
Your agreement with Seal Guard is not a guarantee against your property being damaged by wildlife; it is an assurance that you are taking steps to prevent it and in the event of damage you are assured that you will be alerted as soon as it is noticed, and that new steps will be taken to mitigate the problem.
Fees:
Fees are dependant on size & length of your vessel as well as design; large vessels that require protection only on the swimstep may use less protection than a smaller, lower-
freeboard vessel requiring full hull-length protection. I can customize a protection solution to meet your requirements based on your frequency of using your boat and your
personal needs. Contact me for your cost estimate, and to complete your service agreement.
